What types of materials are curtains made of? What are their characteristics?

1. Basic functional materials

(1) Polyester (polyester fiber) curtains
Advantages: wear-resistant and wrinkle-resistant, strong light-blocking properties, easy to clean, suitable for bedrooms and other scenes requiring high light-blocking properties.
Disadvantages: poor air permeability, easy to generate static electricity, and may melt slightly at high temperatures.
Applicable styles: suitable for modern, simple and industrial styles. The minimalist style popular in 2025 often uses polyester high-precision fabrics.

(2) Cotton and linen blended curtains
Advantages: natural breathability and good moisture absorption, suitable for natural styles such as wabi-sabi style and log style.
Disadvantages: easy to shrink and wrinkle, pure cotton material has poor drape, and needs to be blended with polyester to improve performance.
Shading upgrade: light-blocking properties can be improved through thickening or interlayer design.

(3) Flannel (velvet/corduroy) curtains
Advantages: strong drape, excellent sound insulation and light-blocking effects, suitable for retro or light luxury styles.
Disadvantages: Easy to absorb dust and heavy, need to be cleaned regularly, and the curtain rod needs to be reinforced during installation.

2. Special functional materials

(1) High-precision jacquard curtains
Features: Upgraded polyester fabric, fine texture and excellent drape, strong wear resistance, often used in high-end living rooms or hotels.
Applicable scenarios: Modern style, technological space, more texture when paired with smart home.

(2) Chenille curtains
Advantages: Thick and soft, good water absorption and drape, with both light-shielding and dust-proof functions, suitable for autumn and winter use.
Disadvantages: Easy to shrink and wrinkle after washing, need to be hand washed or dry cleaned at low temperature.

(3) Gauze (chiffon/bamboo) curtains
Advantages: Translucent and light, creating a hazy beauty.
Applicable scenarios: Living room, study, with blackout cloth to achieve light adjustment.

3. High-end and environmentally friendly materials

(1) Silk/simulated silk curtains
Advantages: Smooth touch, moisture absorption and heat dissipation, suitable for luxury style.
Disadvantages: expensive, easy to fade and shrink, need to be used with blackout lining.

(2)Blackout linen curtains
Upgraded features: double-layer linen or added coating treatment, the light-blocking rate is improved
Waterproof material (PVC/vinyl) curtains
Features: mildew-proof and antibacterial, suitable for humid environments such as bathrooms and kitchens.
Note: need to be cleaned regularly and kept dry to avoid high temperature deformation.
